The challenge of being a woman, a mom and a worker
Massage therapy’s primary benefits are deeper relaxation, quicker detox, and greater self-acceptance.
Massage therapy is useful to many recovering people after rehab as part of their long-term healing process.
La Jolla Recovery offers programs specifically designed to help our clients withdraw from psychoactive drugs. While participants of detox programs generally reach their goals, the process is often harsh, exacting a high emotional and physical toll.
Troublesome symptoms of withdrawal from psychoactive drugs may include anxiety and sleep disturbances. Such symptoms can lead to discontinuation of withdrawal or affect the introduction of cognitive-behavioral and motivational therapy components of withdrawal management programs unless they are treated.
In detox, the symptoms of withdrawal are managed pharmacologically. Pharmacological tools for managing anxiety and sleep disturbances exist, and while effective and safe, they have limitations and liability in some clinical settings in addiction treatment.
La Jolla has incorporated non-pharmacological anxiety management practices into its programs, such as therapeutic massages, to address these concerns.
Therapeutic massage has been shown to reduce anxiety in a variety of clinical settings,
Massage therapy also benefits both patients and counselors in chemical dependency treatment programs.
Furthermore, massage facilitates awareness of unresolved emotional issues and tensions that have been clogged in the muscles.
