Internet Addiction
Technology is advancing and entering more and more into our daily lives. The Internet, social media platforms, connectivity and mobile devices lead us to an increasingly connected and digital world, which has generated a significant change in the way we relate and communicate.
The use of the Internet and video games since childhood has made the new generations get along better with technology, that they come to use it almost instinctively, and that they manage extensive technological knowledge at an early age. This phenomenon can be both positive and negative; positive in the sense that technology has become a contribution in educational matters, and negative for the change it generates in the way children and adolescents have to establish relationships with their peers, in addition to the high risks they run when exposing so much information on the net.
According to the specialists, in some cases technology can affect children and young people in a very negative way, because it can cause isolation from the real world, because they spend many hours surfing the internet, chatting or playing video games, and they lose a significant part of their time that they could use doing other activities with their peers. In addition, it considers dangerous the high level of exposure to which young people undergo on the internet.
What Happens When You Fall Into Internet Addiction?
Another issue is the so-called “internet addiction“, a problem that occurs when people become completely dependent on internet connectivity and that can even lead them to have symptoms of anguish, anxiety and violence if they do not have access to the network, in addition to generate brain disorders similar to those generated by addiction to alcohol and drugs. According to specialists, this addiction can lead people to suffer depression, nervousness, irritability, panic and little interest in living with other people.
The United States, China and England have a large number of cases of internet addicts, which has even led to the opening of specialized clinics on the subject.

The first case of internet addiction was recognized in 2008 in China, and then in the United States, where they opened the first clinic for this pathology in 2009.
In China, the Beijing Treatment Center is responsible for treating the large number of Chinese who have this problem.
There are an estimated 2.5 million internet addicts in the country, according to Dr. Tao Ran, founder of this medical center.
Most of the patients are young people between 18 and 36 years old, who are hospitalized by their parents to cure this disorder. So far this clinic has about 1,500 patients and is 70% successful in its treatments, which consist of days of physical training and sport, in addition to relaxation sessions that are coordinated by psychologists and psychiatrists.
The English are also dealing with the problem by creating a clinic for internet addicted children.
This is an open clinic at the Capio Nightingale Private Hospital, located in central London. This clinic cares for patients between 12 and 15 years old, having personalized therapies for each patient.
The main objective of this treatment is to increase adolescents’ self-confidence in real encounters over virtual ones.
In addition, young people are helped to manage the anxiety, energy and excitement caused by long days playing on the PC and with consoles.
If there is something to remember it is that the technology used properly, can have a lot of utilities, both educational and communicative, and even bring us closer to our friends and/or relatives who are elsewhere. However, if the technology is not used well, it can cause isolation, poor communication, and other serious problems.
