lost

Lost in translation.

Lost highway.

Which movie or book made you feel kind of accompanied, but sill adrift in this life?

If you are a child of divorce, or survived an alcoholic or drug addicted parent, you must have felt alone in your own house.  Surrounded by immature adults, you probably even had to play “the mature one”.

I grew up with my aunt, who had schizophrenia.

It was horrible to come back from school and hear her digress over the latest conspiracy theory.  I had to go to the supermarket from time to time in order to stockpile water, tuna fish and toilette paper.  She thought World War III was close and we had to be ready.

I used to lock myself in my room and break into tears.  “My family is crazy, they are all insane”.

It was only after I went to college and lived on campus, that I acknowledge the urgent need for guidance.  My grades were getting worse, I was binge dating and sleeping with whomever, and was taking pills to sleep.

I was not that mature, after all.

Despite all the praising comments of my high school tutors, I was just a kid struggling to find a path in a family tree of lunatics.
