Criticism can leave big scars in a child’s upbringing.
I used to be heavily criticized for not having any friends back in elementary school. For not liking football and being a nerd. I actually loved football, but was so bad at it, that I refrained from playing it or trying to get better at it.
Harsh criticism easily turns into verbal abuse.
Of course a kid needs discipline and guidance, but not at the expense of his/her overall wellbeing. Sometimes it is better to let children be.
Therefore, allow them to explore the world. If their are bad at picking their clothes, or don´t have the best pronunciation in their mandarin lessons, relax. They´ll get better at it if you make them put in more hours of study. Or explain them with kind of clothes are appropriate for each season.

Keep in mind that, very often, our criticism is a projection of what we dislike about ourselves.
Your kids will not become what you could not achieve in life. Much the less if you keep bugging them about little things.
